NU's GPA is indeed too high - stats show that if you attend a class, then more than 55% of the time, you will get As. And that is simply not acceptable, because not everyone tries hard and are smart.
I think another problem is the discrepancy between schools and departments - there is serious grade inflation in the humanities, but the sciences can be ridiculously deflated - in a certain higher-level physics class can grade to a B- or C+. This discrepancy is discouraging people from taking science classes.

You forget about all of the club sports teams that use that space as well. Also, the fencing team uses the room a lot. Now that the fencing team can't use that space, where will they practice and will it crowd out club sports even more? Plain and simple: Northwestern needs to build more space for these activities along with the ones mentioned in the article.
