For his contributions in molecular nanotechnology and nanoelectromechanical systems, Sir Fraser Stoddart, the Board of Trustees Professor of Chemistry, has been awarded the 2008 Davy Medal from the Royal Society of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.

The Davy Medal recognizes an outstandingly important recent discovery in any branch of chemistry. Past recipients - the award has been given out since 1877 - include John A. Pople and Pierre and Madame Curie, among others.

Stoddart is the second-most cited chemist in the world for the past decade, according to the Institute for Scientific Information.
