Matt Grevers, Communications '07, earned a spot on the U.S. Olympic swimming squad Wednesday, edging a rival from his time with the Cats to take second place in the 100-meter backstroke. Ryan Lochte, who Grevers beat in the event at the 2005 NCAA Championship, finished third behind Grevers and world-record holder Aaron Piersol. Each country may send two entrants per event to the games. Grevers is also aiming to compete in the 100-meter freestyle event, where the competition, including nine-time medalist Michael Phelps, is expected to be tougher.
