Work for The Daily Northwestern

Get real-life journalism experience. In class you'll learn how to write an event story or produce a video. At The Daily, you'll interview people about actual news and get practice writing for your peers and neighbors. You'll chase stories against the pros and build your skills under deadline. And you'll have fun along the way.

Daily alumni have gone on to write for The New York Times, Newsweek, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe and The Wall Street Journal -- and that's just in the last year.

Work for Evanston's only daily newspaper. We cover everything that happens on campus and in the city. Reporters and photographers work on investigations, cover student groups and administration officials, and break the stories students talk about. And we head out to crime scenes, rallies, community meetings and everything else north of Howard Street.

Get to know Northwestern. Do you know the names of every administrative official in Rebecca Crown Center? Every player on the football team? The day jobs of every alderman on Evanston City Council? You might not want to, and that's cool. But you'll learn a lot of cool stuff about Northwestern and Evanston.

Write as much or as little as you want. As a Daily staffer, you can write once a quarter or five times a week. We'll worship you if you write five times a week, but we'll also be really happy if you come in at all.

Cover what interests you. You can be a general assignment reporter and write about anything, or you can do beats ranging from football to Greek life to police. And we switch beats every quarter, so you'll never get bored.

Get multimedia experience. We break news on the Web 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Interested in video, photography, Flash or other forms of multimedia? You've come to the right place. We'll help you put the skills you've learned in class to use.
