Born in Florida and raised in Texas, I always felt like a foreigner in the South. Despite my love for football, fried chicken and freedom, I have no accent, do not say "y'all," and was once called a communist by my friend's dad at a barbecue. Having long hair, participating in school theatre and espousing liberal politics was not the norm in Texas, but since I started attending NU I feel much more at home (although I have since ditched the flowing locks for good).
I'm now a junior double majoring in Political Science and Theatre. This year I will serve as the Vice President of Community Relations for NU's Associated Student Government as well as the Party Leader of the Left for Political Union, NU's premier political debate society. If you like political commentary with a splash of wit, read my column. If I could give two recommendations to all NU students, I would say that you should introduce yourselves to your neighbors if you live off campus and attend Political Union on Monday nights at 7 p.m. at the Buffett Center. I promise that those are not shameless plugs. Really. Stop looking at me like that.
