Wilmette: Considered cameras a decade ago but decided against them because of residents' concerns about privacy, said Eric Peterson, Wilmette police communications supervisor.
Aurora: Uses cameras at the city's transportation centers, Aurora Director of Public Information Dan Ferrelli said. The city has no plans to install more.
Naperville: Has cameras at the Metra station, parking decks and municipal buildings and is currently installing more at several busy intersections, Naperville telecommunications director Dan Voiland said in an e-mail.
Chicago: Has one of the world's largest surveillance camera networks, with a core group of 2,000 operated by police and access to another 13,000 owned by private companies, University of Illinois at Chicago Prof. Rajiv Shah said. Chicago Police Sgt. Antoinette Ursitti provided a lower figure; in an e-mail, she wrote the city has "over 800" cameras in operation.
