A car struck an 18-year-old man running across Sheridan Road to catch a bus Thursday evening, police said.

The man was crossing to the west side of Sheridan Road around its intersection with Emerson Street at 7:06 p.m. when a northbound car struck him, Evanston Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther said.

Police responded to the scene shortly after the incident, University Police Cmdr. Darren Davis said.

Paramedics loaded the injured man onto a stretcher and an ambulance transported him to a local hospital, Guenther said.

The man said he was trying to catch a bus and did not see the car coming, Guenther said. His condition is unknown.

It is unknown if the man was a Northwestern student, Guenther said.
