The Daily published an article Tuesday about an alleged battery off campus near Willard Residential College. Since the time of publication, The Daily has learned of several inaccuracies in the story.

A 28-year-old Evanston resident was arrested early Sunday morning in connection with the alleged battery of a 25-year-old male and a 30-year-old female in the 1800 block of Sherman Avenue.

In the article and in its headline, The Daily reported there was also a robbery. However, there was no indication of a robbery or attempted robbery, according to the Evanston Police Department.

That claim was based on an interview with a Northwestern student who lived near the scene of the crime but did not actually witness the incident but merely its aftermath, and was not named in the police report.

That same witness told The Daily police took 10 minutes to arrive on the scene. But according to the EPD communication center, a 911 call was received at 3:55 a.m. and officers arrived two minutes later at 3:57 a.m.

Also, the article stated the male who was attacked left the scene in an ambulance. The Daily has since learned that male was treated by paramedics on the scene.

The Daily sincerely regrets these errors, and the article has since been taken down from our website.
