Warmer weather overheats some dining hall employees

I love this campus in the spring. Especially now that I can walk to class in 80 degree weather ... in shorts! This warmer weather, however, is not such good news for the employees of 1835 Hinman's dining hall.

As I waited in line for my vegetable teriyaki stir-fry, I noticed that Steve, the chef, was profusely sweating. He looked absolutely miserable.

Every time he had to open the wok to flip the vegetables around, he sighed and grimaced in pain. I offered to get him a cup of ice. He declined. While I was getting my drink, I heard another employee grumble "It's ... so ... hot." All of the workers were obviously in discomfort.

The employees in 1835 Hinman's dining hall deserve to work in adequate conditions. Certain measures have to be taken to protect the health and comfort of these Northwestern University employees to enable them to do their job without having to suffer.

Persistent class gift solicitors annoy graduating NU seniors

As a graduating senior, I've been trying to enjoy each remaining day on campus to its fullest. But there's one thing that's really gotten on my last nerve: solicitors for the senior class gift.

Even though I've said no, I just can't escape you. Your 491- prefix looks legitimate, you'll call any day of the week, any time of the day (during class, no less) and you might be anyone, from a friend to a former hallmate.

Don't get me wrong. The Class of 2004 is certainly indebted to the university that has given us so much in so many ways. But for you solicitors, please, I beg you: If we say no, stop calling us. Because if you continue to twist our arms for money, it's no longer a gift. It's an obligation.

Administration failed in Iraq, time has come for Bush to go

There have been more than 600 deaths since President Bush erroneously declared "Mission Accomplished" on board the USS Abraham Lincoln. More than 100 soldiers died last month in Iraq. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld covered up American abuse of Iraqi soldiers. Secretary of State Colin Powell lied in front of the United Nations.

The Bush administration has failed. Do not give them the opportunity to fail again. Or, better yet, Bush should withdraw as a candidate for President.
