It's telling that Marxist-turned-conservative pundit David Horowitz took time out Tuesday to whine about the small turnout at his speech. As a member of one of America's few growth industries - self-aggrandizement - Horowitz surely must have been disappointed that his latest tirade against liberal academia did not attract the sort of attention he needs if he hopes to keep his speaker's fees high.

I wonder if Horowitz has ever stopped to consider that some people are simply bored by his shtick. After all, it follows the same tired pattern conservative "commentators" like Ann Coulter have been following for at least a decade: Conservative says marginally interesting thing in the most incendiary way possible; liberal students on campus overreact; conservative points to most extreme example of overreaction to martyr himself and show that all liberals are close-minded, un-American, IslamoMarxoFacists.

Rinse.

Repeat.

With no one taking the bait anymore, Horowitz is simply left to promote a sort of affirmative action for the conservative punditry, with liberal professors specifically encouraging students to hear conservative speeches that can't draw a crowd on the open market.

He also grumbles about how the Rev. Jeremiah Wright outdrew him tenfold, which shows conclusively either that Northwestern is filled with close-minded, un-American IslamoMarxoFacists, or that David Horowitz's Q rating is slightly lower than that of a man who was featured prominently in a presidential campaign.

Hey, I just report. You decide.

But Horowitz shouldn't feel too bad. With Democrats in control of the White House and both houses of Congress come January, he'll be in a better position to take advantage of all the social safety net programs he has spent a career deriding once those speaker's fees dry up.
