Daily takes 1st overall; individual stories win, place at Illinois awards

The Daily Northwestern won first place for general excellence among Illinois daily college newspapers, as well as 10 other awards at the Illinois College Press Association conference Friday and Saturday.

The annual awards honor work in a variety of categories for the state's college newspapers.

Daily entries receiving awards were:

First Place General Excellence Entertainment supplement, Play magazine Sports game story, Matt Baker News story, Emily Glazer and Matt Presser Front page layout, Steph Wang

Second Place Headline writing, Matt Presser Column, Josiah Jenkins Feature story, Alison Hollenbeck

Third Place Sports game story, Wade Askew

Honorable Mention Headline writing, Christina Alexander and Lia Lehrer Feature story, Steph Yiu
